Peace, Love, and Hope for the Future

I sometimes draw my inspiration from odd places; the phrase of the title was something I heard on one of my "murder shows", The Coroner. The man with the position of the title said it as he talked about the sad juxtaposition of a certain murder on Christmas Day. Despite the unfortunate circumstances that spawned the phrase, I like it. In our current social climate, it seems we have little of any of those three things. If I were a religious person, I might actually believe that this is the "end of times". In my entire life, I've never seen such chaos, hatred and despair. What's weird about that is everyone seems to agree with that assessment, but if that's true, who are all the haters?

Obviously, social media fuels the fire. I have been on Facebook even less than usual for that very reason. I don't want people to stop expressing themselves -- well, okay, maybe I do, but I believe they have the right to do it -- although I don't think it is in any way constructive. As bad as the insane lies are, I think what bothers me more are the snarky comments. I find them to be passive/agressive, and I don't like that at all. So I don't look. I scroll past all of that, pause on friends' family photos, wish people happy birthday, and then get away from it.

While I'm bitching, let me throw this in: If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. This phrase comes from before my time, but applies at least as much now as ever. I wonder if these people who have nothing good to say about anything ever do something to make it better, whatever it is. I would bet not many. To use another relevant cliche, it's time to put up or shut up.
