Thoughts on Thinking

People say that as we get older, our minds get slower. Earlier today it occurred to me that there might be an alternative explanation. Younger folks haven't (generally) acquired as much knowledge, so there's less in their heads to slow down their thinking processes. We older guys and gals, especially those of us who are well-read or otherwise highly-educated, have so much information stuffed into our heads that it seems only natural that sometimes it would take us longer to access that information. Am I wrong here?

It worries me that names and other details that used to come easily to mind for me now take longer -- just a little -- to think of. I can't argue that as we age, most of us slow down physically to some extent, but I'm going to believe my alternate theory on thinking. It makes sense, and it's more palatable than the idea that we're just forgetting. Yeah, I like that.
