Spring Break!

Honestly, it's hard to get too excited about spring break when I'm teaching only one class that meets once a week. I left my schedule open for all of next week in case I decided I wanted to go somewhere. (I still haven't used my $700 flight credit, and if I don't use it by June I'll lose it.) So I'm trying to get excited for other reasons. My scoring program is swamped with essays; I'm going to put in availability for at least a few half days. Today was my first shift as a scoring leader, and I think I did okay. There is a lot to do!

In addition, I'm going to try to finish the class I'm taking for online teaching. Once I'm certified in that area, more possibilities will open up for me -- although I'm not sure they're opportunities I want. I don't especially like the idea of online teaching, not because I'm a non-techie (which is true, but not my biggest concern) but because I don't think students get as much from the experience as they do from face-to-face courses. The hybrid I'm doing now seems like a nice compromise. Students (and I) don't meet at frequently, but we have that in-person time for discussion and personal interaction. Whether I think online classes are good modes of delivery for course material, the fact is that nearly every school is making that an option. Having the training and certification will be a feather in my cap, even if I never wear that particular cap.

Life is good and has been exhausting lately. If I am able to work my schedule around it -- and feel like taking a short trip -- I may go visit my son for one day. We have been wanting to go to Cocoa Beach, to our favorite little tiki bar, and his semester ends on Wednesday. I'm going to try to find a "beach cam" first to make sure Cocoa isn't crawling with "spring-breakers". That would be a dealbreaker for me.
