When You Almost Run into Your Ex

Today has been the weirdest day. I hadn't been feeling well and was considering ending my online scoring shift early to go to the doctor, when I received a call from my scoring leader asking if I'd checked my email. I said no, I was scoring, not checking my email. Apparently, our system was undergoing maintenance for the remainder of the day (the entire second half) and I was the only one still logged on. So I worked four hours and was paid for eight. That's always nice. And it meant that I could go to the doctor. I didn't have an appointment, but his office is really good about working people in when necessary. I considered it necessary; my heartbeat was erratic and my blood pressure was way up.

So I pulled into the parking lot at the office -- and immediately saw my ex-husband's truck. (I mean my second husband, not the father of my kids.) Now, I have not seen EX2 (which is one of the nicer ways I refer to him) in nearly ten years. We live less than five miles apart so it's odd we haven't run into each other before. I didn't even know he still went to that doctor. Anyway, although I felt crappy I waited in my car until I saw him leave. Should I feel bad that I was a little bit happy to see that he is balding and the small amount of hair he has left is snow white? It used to be black as coal. And he's paunchy as the dickens. Again, I feel guilty to be glad about that. I never wish anyone ill, but it's not like I made him bald, gray, and paunchy. Besides, he beat me up and destroyed my property. I'm over it, but that doesn't mean I've forgotten.

My doctor increased my blood pressure medicine (again) and took me with him down the hall to the referral department, where he "ordered" the staff to have my cardiologist referral ready by tomorrow. He also put his hand on my shoulder and told me to stop worrying so much. That was very kind, and is part of the reason I'd never change to a different doc, even if some of his staff isn't so swift. Feeling better, or at least reassured for the moment, I put my newfound free time to good use, gathering items to take to the clothing consignment shop next week. (The things I'm selling were already grouped, but I can take in only a certain number of in-season items at a time.) My house is looking better every day, and I feel great about off-loading all this stuff (most of it through donations). Overall, this has been a successful day.
