For all my going on yesterday about not buying things and having too much already that I'm trying to get rid of, today I was closing tabs on my browser and looked at one from a place called Yarnspirations. I'm probably "yarnspired" quite enough already. When I clicked on it to close the tab, a message said, "Thank you for your order!" I seriously have no memory of ordering yarn last night -- and I was not under the influence of any inebriating substance -- but right there in the Accounts folder of my email, where I had clearly filed it, was an order confirmation from Yarnspirations. This is scary. Am I getting drowsy late in the evening and ordering items online that I have been restraining myself from ordering otherwise? In at least this particular case, that's exactly what I did.
I need to find a way, other than relying on self-control, to stop ordering online. When my son and his girlfriend were at my house a few days ago, we ordered Panera online to pick up. I treated, and recited my debit card number, right down to the code on the back. They seemed stunned that I could just rattle it off. I thought everyone knew his/her card number off the top of his/her head. Now I'm a little concerned. Maybe I could lock myself out of the computer somehow although truly I don't get on much in the evening. Probably a better choice is to write up a list of reasons I don't need to buy anything and post it prominently on my desk. I could look at it when I'm tempted by ads or great sale prices. Or I could continue to work on self-control.
At least my purchase will be of some use to me. I'm getting my Etsy crochet store back up and running, and baby items are quick to make and very popular. I'll put the yarn to good use. While I do have a ton of yarn, most of it is not baby yarn. Overall, my night-time shopping wasn't a horrible disaster, but it's something I don't want to repeat. And on that note, I'm turning off my computer until tomorrow.
