My New (and Highly-Lucrative) Hobby

Last night I decided to put some small items I had set aside on eBay. Within five minutes of posting, someone sent me a message through the site and offered me twice the starting bid if I would do a "Buy it Now" option. You know I did! This morning when I got up, I noticed he had messaged me again about another one of my items. I'm new to eBay, so I wasn't sure how to price things; I took eBay's suggestions, when offered, but two of my items were vintage and eBay doesn't help price those. So based on what he had offered me for the first item, I simply doubled the price and gave him the chance to "Buy it Now". He did. In less than twelve hours, I became $250+ richer by selling things I wasn't using anyway. Now, not only is it out of my way and I have the money instead, but someone will enjoy it. It's a win-win.

I've sold inexpensive items on eBay before -- only yarn, I think. Now I'm ready to list the few clothes I set aside for the consignment shop; why let someone else make money off them when I can probably get more selling them myself? Bigger items are more trouble, though, especially clothing. I know I'll have to measure it, display it nicely, and then go to the post office to ship it. The small items I sold and sent off today fit nicely into a small padded envelope, which I just happened to have. Larger items require boxes that won't fit into the mailbox. Overall, I need to think about the time and trouble and decide if it's worth it.

This instant success has wound me up! I'm ready to keep progressing through my "spark joy" process as my schedule allows, all the while setting aside a few -- and I really do mean a few -- items to sell. I'm fine with giving away most of what I don't want, but it's not like I'm drowning in dollars over here, so if I can pick up a few bucks on some of it, it's worth a little trouble. I definitely don't want to head down the path of boxing things up long-term with the intention of selling it later. Anything I decided to sell will be posted immediately upon my reaching the determination that it will be sold. Otherwise, I'd never get my house cleaned out! I just can't believe I waited this long to discover what a great resource eBay could be. I'm a convert.
