Very Slow Cooker

Who knew potatoes would take so long to cook in the crockpot? Not me. I put everything together for a nice beef vegetable soup. Now it's ready except for the spuds, and it smells really good. I'm hungry. I love soup and the slow cooker, but I don't eat potatoes much. I guess this is the first time I've done them in the crockpot, although my son's girlfriend did our Thanksgiving mashed potatoes in there. I seem to recall that she said they took a long time to cook.

None of this is exceptionally important. My back still hurts -- but it does seem to be getting better -- and Mazie chewed through the cord to my heating pad last night. She's lucky she didn't get shocked. Maybe she did. I don't know; I was asleep in my room and the heating pad was on the sofa, plugged in. I've thought before that I shouldn't leave it plugged in at night just in case one of the pets could somehow turn it on. When I was young, my father left the heating pad on in his recliner and we woke up to a houseful of smoke. Fortunately, nothing was damaged except the chair. So I'm usually more mindful of such things. This morning when I went to put the heating pad on my back, the pad and the switch were two pieces, not attached.

Tomorrow I'll get a new heating pad. My soup will be ready soon. The only thing slower than me today is the crockpot!
