Finally, after what seemed like a long time without, we had a completely sunny day. My youngest son is still in town and my middle son had the day off, so we made plans to spend the day together. We didn't get beyond that in our planning. The youngest and I were going to pick up the middle one around noon; shortly before that, I had a great idea: Let's go to Fort Clinch and walk the pier. (It's a very long pier -- over a half mile and a cool fort.) Even though it was sunny, it was cold and windy at the beach. I have, in the nearly-sixteen years I've lived in Florida, become completely acclimated to the warm weather. I was wearing a long-sleeved shirt, a knee-length hooded sweater, and gloves. My northern friends and family will think that's ridiculous when I go on to say that the temperature was in the high fifties. Truly, though, it was cold out on that pier!
One of the best parts of living where I do is being close to the beach; another great thing about living in Florida is our excellent park system. The combination is the best. I had a fantastic time today going to the beach-park with my sons, but there's no reason I can't do more of that kind of thing on my own. Now that I'm discovering these places, I'm looking forward to going back more often.
