Cap'n Bern

Today I did one of the most fun activities ever. We rented a pontoon boat for two hours and took it out on the St. John's River, and I piloted it. I can't believe they let anyone with a driver's license and enough money to take out a boat. I've been on boats before but never driven. At first I was pretty timid, but after going under the second bridge I had built my courage up. The weather was so beautiful, my middle son had taken off work, and we all had a great time -- and, yes, my ex-husband went too. He's going back to Maryland tonight. The rest of us will keep having good family time.

Anyway, I let everyone take a turn at the wheel (except the little gals, of course). The boat was basic but had some nice features, including a digital depth-finder (which really came in handy) and a speaker system. We were blasting B-52s, Talking Heads, and whatever other 80s bands my middle son has on his phone. It seriously could not have been better. I can't believe I've lived here for fifteen years and never done that before!

We spent the earlier part of the day going to local monuments (which I'd also missed seeing before). My foot had a good workout on the trails, and visiting those places with my family was pretty fun too. I may write more later, but I have to set a few little ladies straight. I actually had to raise my voice -- something I rarely do -- because one of them was about to destroy something that I've kept for years. While I really love to see them, they can also bring out the bitch in me. We have been having a great time, so I'm not complaining, just saying. It's time to reign them in and enjoy the rest of the evening.
