Apart from the Crowd

Two of my sons and my granddaughters are at my middle one's house, with the third on the way. I, on the other hand, am at home with a migraine. I guess it's not a huge deal -- we're planning a beach trip for tomorrow, and the oldest son and granddaughters will be here all week -- but I'm both sad and pissed. I thought I'd gotten rid of the headaches; after having them Monday through Wednesday, they seemed to subside Thursday, Friday, and half of today. I went to my middle son's house after my class, and my oldest son and his family arrived shortly after. At least we had a few hours together today, and the youngest son is stopping by my house on the way to his brother's. I really did try to stick it out. I was there for an hour or so before the headache started, and I tried a few ibruprophen tablets, which did nothing. It continued to get worse, so bad that I had trouble thinking clearly enough to carry on a conversation. By 5:00, I couldn't stand it any longer.

I have prescription pills (Fiorcet) at home that usually work pretty well, so I took my little dog and headed back to my side of town. (Mazie stayed with my son and his girlfriend last night so I could mop my floors before work.) I took two pills -- along with a probiotic because one of my students was getting over a cold and sneezing during the entire class session -- and ate a bit of leftover chili and rice, remnants of the meal I made last night for bunkbed assembly. As soon as I finish writing this, I'm going to lie down on my sofa with a cool cloth over my eyes and try to relax so I'll be ready for beach time tomorrow. At least, I'm hoping that's how it works out.

Maybe this isn't truly a migraine but just the result of too much running around, too little eating, and too little sleep. (I set my alarm for 4:30 this morning and hadn't fallen asleep until after 1:30.) Whether it is or isn't, the medicine and some food and rest should help. I'll leave the guys and gals to their first-day fun, and hope that this isn't a portent of what's to come for the week.
