I expected today to be good but not necessarily in the ways it was. One son is visiting and another was coming over to join us for dinner. I was cooking an Italian feast featuring lasagna and homemade bread. I was going to make a dessert, but when my youngest son and I were at the grocery store yesterday we encountered this unbelievable confection -- salted caramel layer cake -- so we went with that instead. I also got a basketed Chianti and my favorite (and hard to find) wine, Sangiovese. Dinner was as wonderful as we had hoped, and we played Scrabble afterwards. The earlier part of the day was the unexpected.
This morning as I did my daily stroll through Facebook posts, I saw that one of my friends was helping someone find a home for an abandoned kitten. My son has been wanting a kitten for some time, and this little gal was right up his alley. (He likes long-haired cats.) We took the dogs in for shots and grooming, and while we were out I told my son about this adorable creature. I had tried to share the pics but I guess because of my friend's privacy settings they didn't go through. The minute we got home from dropping the dogs off, he had to see the kitten. I told him to go ahead and message my friend from my account and explain that he wanted the kitten. It turned out her brother had it; he is also a friend I hadn't seen for many years. Not only did he bring kitty (we're not entirely certain of gender yet) to our house, but also he supplied us with food, formula, and other necessities. The kitten is somewhere between three and five weeks old, and she isn't quite ready for just solid food. I had a chance to catch up with this friend, and I sent him home with bread and lasagna since he wasn't able to stay for dinner.
If this had been a different weekend, my son wouldn't have been here. I just love how it all fell into place. And I can't even express how cute this little cat is. She looks like an Ewok. My friend told me that the neighbor who found her said, "Do you want this, or should I put it out of its misery?" I'm so glad he took her even though he couldn't have pets where he lived, and I'm so glad that my son finally got his kitten. Sometimes things just fall into place when you're not even trying. (I'm trying to get him to name her Taffy Velour, but he isn't a big fan.)
