Mazie Comes Home

Finally, after six full weeks away, my little dog is back at home with me. Honestly, her return has been anti-climactic. At first she was so excited to be back, and of course I was happy to see her. (Even though she's been at my son's house since my surgery, we did have a weekend reunion recently.) She jumped up into my arms and licked my face, then she hopped down and explored the yard. After that, she climbed up onto the sofa and napped -- which is what she's been doing most of the day. I guess she was worn out and just needs some time to adjust to being home.

What's most odd to me is that she and Sophia (the little cat) have barely acknowledged each other. Usually they are the happiest playmates, rolling in the yard and sunning themselves together. Sophia has been a real pain in the ass since Mazie's been away, so I thought she would be ecstatic when life finally returned to normal(ish). I suppose it will take both of them a while to remember their friendship and get reacquainted. In the meantime, I'm letting them do what they want, which really isn't much. Sophia is asleep in the dining room and Mazie is burrowed into the sofa cushions.

Now that I'm getting around better -- for the last two days, I've used the boot all day; today I even mopped my floors! -- I'm less worried about falling over Mazie and hurting her or me. My son's girlfriend said, when she dropped Mazie off, that if it turned out I wasn't able to have her here, Mazie could go back to their house. But I think we'll be okay. I'm really happy to have my little friend back!
