First, two updates on yesterday's post: The Department of Children and Families (DCF) is investigating the missing toddler's mother and her family. Do you think they read my blog? I doubt it. I suppose I'm not the only one who was wondering why the mother had left her children in the care of a man she had a restraining order against and who had a history of violence toward women and children. Also, in the continuing search for the toddler, investigators have found two sets of human remains, in different locations, unrelated to the toddler. It kind of makes you wonder how many sets of remains are buried around Jacksonville. The search area is a concentrated grid in one part of the city. What else is out there?
Anyway, this morning I received a call from a young woman who is looking into becoming a life coach. She called me because I am still listed on the website as president. I made clear to her that our chapter had been in a dormant state for the last several months, and in reality I am the immediate past president. I told her I would be happy to answer whatever questions I could. We talked for more than a half hour, and she was grateful for my help. I didn't sugarcoat it; I told her that very few coaches I know survive on just their coaching income. When we finished our call, and I told her to feel free to call me anytime she had questions or needed encouragement, she blessed me and thanked me profusely.
This afternoon, I received a call from a conference planner at a big resort in South Florida. She was reaching out to see if our coaching group ever had meetings out of town where we would need rooms/catering onsite. I explained the same things to her that I had told the young woman this morning (that I'm the past president, etc.), but increasingly as we chatted she was determinted that I see this newly renovated resort property. I had told her too that I am recovering from foot surgery, and she invited me to come down when I feel better, tour the facility, and let her set me up in an oceanfront guest room. Hmm. . . Okay! I can't wait! It's just a two and a half hour trip, and I will really be ready for a little beach vacation. I would feel weird about it (as in unethical) if I hadn't made it clear that I was no longer on the board of directors for that group. As it stands, my only feeling is gratitude (and having something to look forward to). And while I didn't help the young woman this morning for any reason other than to help, I think my good deed paid immediate dividends.
