Healing Baths

Whether or not I have to be clean for any reason, few things have made me feel better over these past few weeks than washing my hair. I've been doing my best to clean the rest of me too, but my hair getting clean is just the best! After a week or more of struggling to wash it while sitting on the side of the bathtub, I got smart and started washing it in the kitchen sink. (If you eat anything from my kitchen, don't worry. I sanitize the sink before and after.) When I was washing it in the bathtub, I was so exhausted by the time I rinsed that I couldn't be bothered to condition it. Now, I can manage the conditioner too, and I've been using some coconut products I found in my sons' bathroom. Not only does it feel terrific, it smells so good -- a nice form of aromatherapy.

Today I thought about trying to take a bath in my garden tub with my wrapped foot dangling over the side. Further reflection changed my mind. While I could probably get in the tub -- and would most certainly enjoy the soak -- I'm honestly now sure I'd be able to get back out and there is no one I want to call to help lift my heavy naked body out of the water. So instead I did my usual weird little bird bath. I'll spare you the details except to say it gets me clean enough. My next doctor's appointment is next Wednesday, and I think that's when my pin comes out. I guess the stitches will be absorbed by then (or whatever they do), and I'm hoping my doctor gives me the green light on a long, luxurious shower. He probably won't put it that way, exactly. I remember from previous surgeries that showers/baths become longed-for indulgences when you can't have them.

Whatever way my doctor phrases it, water and cleanliness will go far to help me heal faster. I'm counting down the days.
