Drinking Games

When I was younger, I was a big fan of drinking games. Even these days, under the right circumstances I might be persuaded to play one. While I'm on my scooter, short one foot, I'm not feeling stable enough to drink alcohol -- my one tropical drink at lunch yesterday aside -- but tonight I'm playing a drinking game while not drinking, and it isn't nearly as fun as while drinking. I don't necessarily have anything against drinking, if I'm not planning to drive, and if I don't have to do anything the next day. One thing I noticed about drinking as I got older was the recovery took a lot longer than when I was young -- and it was at least twenty years ago that I came to that realization. And that's the real reason I don't drink often. I don't care so much about being loud(er) and silly(er), but I can't stand feeling like crap for several days after a night of drinking, and sometimes that happens if I have just a few beers. It isn't worth it.

So tonight I'll be the sober one in the crowd, playing drinking games with my sons and their friends. I may not have as much fun as I would if I drank, but I'll sure feel better in the morning.
