When my son brought over some groceries for me this morning, he also brought in a package that was sitting at my door. I didn't remember ordering anything, but it was clearly addressed to me. I opened and inside were two nice books, ones I'd heard of but haven't read. But where did they come from? Had I accidently ordered them? I went to my Amazon account (according to the return address, that was the source of the package) just to make sure. But, no, I hadn't ordered any books recently. I searched through the site for ways to find out who might have sent me the books. (I have a suspicion, but I'd like to write a thank-you note and want to be sure.) I have been a member of Amazon since their earliest days, and I have to say that getting in touch with the company used to be much easier. As much as I searched, there was no "Find out who sent me a gift" section on the help page, and the "Contact us" area seems to discourage phone calls (as there is no telephone number) and all questions must be related to an order number, which in this instance I obviously don't have.
For the moment, I'll give up on finding the "culprit" and hope that she or he knows I'm grateful. I'm getting some writing and editing done today -- between thunderstorms -- but tomorrow I'll start on the shorter of the two books. I haven't read a book simply for enjoyment in a long time. I'm mostly off pain medicine now; however, I'm still stuck on the sofa with my foot propped extremely high. My little dog is at my son's house until I'm getting around better, so it's nice and quiet. If I get some work done today, I can light some candles and kick back, losing myself in the world of the book. It sounds like a nice day indeed. Thank you, mysterious benefactor!
