Today is my four-year blogaversary! As I started writing to challenge myself three months of daily posting, I'm amazed I've made it this far. I've had nearly 25,000 pageviews, not especially impressive for 1500 posts but not bad considering I haven't promoted my page. At first I cared (a little) whether anyone read the blog or not; now I know I have my core of readers and I'm not concerned about others' checking in -- although all are welcome.
I'm now approaching my fifty-fourth birthday, so I'm well-past flirting with fifty. Maybe I should change the name. Some days I feel like I'm "flirting with thirty", but most of the time not. I hope and believe that after my foot recovers I'll be able to be more active, which I think will make me feel young again. Today I'm cranky and creaky; I suppose that's to be expected a few days after surgery. And in case this information helps you at some point, I'll let you know that the knee-scooters are absolutely better than crutches, but they come with their own challenges, among them navigation and mounting/dismounting. I figured out early how to get on: scoot my injured foot-leg onto the seat, balance myself, stand on my "good foot", and put the injured one behind me. It's usually as awkward and cumbersome as it sounds. As for my dismount, it's often less than graceful. I align myself as best I can with my bed or sofa and kind of bounce off the scooter. Since I can't bear any weight on my surgery foot -- not even a little for balance -- it's hard to do it any other way.
At the moment I'm sitting in my recliner, something I haven't done much and can't do for long because I'm supposed to keep my "toes above my nose", a cute reminder from the nurse when I was leaving the hospital. And so I'll go back to doing that. And, by the way, I'm accidentally getting a great core and thigh workout. I'll need to keep up with those muscle groups now that I've warmed them up, a jumpstart on my after-rehab fitness routine.
