Flipping

Lately I've developed an interest in HGTV, especially the home redesign/flip shows. Maybe because we're getting ready to put my mom's house on the market -- not soon enough for me -- I'm interested in learning more about how to improve a home's curb appeal and also how to buy and sell property. The latter I don't think I would do for a while, but I think it would be fun to do at least once. The idea of taking something that doesn't look so great and transforming it into something more beautiful and functional really appeals to me. Perhaps the biggest problem with this plan is that I don't know how to do much other than painting and a few minor repairs.

Part of the fun is the risk, but I can see how that could be not fun. If I were to get into the flipping business, I would have to have a contractor go with me to make sure it would be worth the effort. Even then, I think it isn't always easy to tell how much work/money would have to be invested to get the house to a point where it could be marketable, much less profitable.

As it turns out, I don't have as much to say about all of that as I thought I did.
