So I've been feeling lousy all week but didn't really know what was wrong. It seemed somewhat flu-like, in that I was sluggish and my body ached. After missing one day of work, I tried to get back to normal. I started scoring essays online early this morning (for the first time in over a month) and after a few hours I could tell that my heartbeat was erratic. Again, I didn't know why, or what was going on. Since I was supposed to go back to my doctor for a blood pressure re-check (which I had decided to put off until Monday), I thought it was probably a good idea to cancel my scoring shift and head to my doctor's office.
As it turned out, I was having an allergic reaction to the blood pressure medication I had started taking on Monday. My doctor gave me something to counteract the reaction -- along with a few samples of a new BP medication -- and I came back home, still not feeling great but relieved to know what the problem was. If I had waited until Monday to go to the doctor, the reaction would have been much worse.
My youngest son is on his way to visit, and usually I would be cooking and cleaning. Instead, I threw some chicken in the crockpot with barbecue sauce and took a nap. (My doc said I should rest today.) We'll have a nice dinner -- even if it isn't up to the high standards I impose upon myself when one or more of my kids come to visit -- and he'll be here until Tuesday. According to my doctor, I'll feel better by Sunday. I can cook a grander meal on a different night. For now, more rest.
