Shutting It Out
News puts me in a quandary. I want to be informed, but I get annoyed with the inflammatory questions asked by the reporters. The current situation in Baltimore certainly doesn't need additional fuel, especially from moronic "journalists" who are tucked safely into their studio hundreds of miles away. Also, I believe the reason for the non-stop coverage is dictated at least in part by the hope that someone will be killed; not capturing that on camera could lead to a station's figurative death. When I heard that both the mayor and the president had called the criminals "thugs", I thought that was a bad idea. Again, it's just contributing to the rancor. The best thing I heard today was a description of the Line of Love (I think that's what it was called), citizens forming a human barricade between the police and protesters, urging the latter to remain peaceful. The worst thing I realized is that the criminals will think they have been effective when there is a decision to prosecute the officers involved in the young man's death -- a decision I hope would have been reached without any of this loss of property and dignity. I don't want to think about it anymore. It's just awful in every aspect.
