Full Circle

Tonight my son's band is the headliner at a club I used to frequent when I first moved to jacksonville. Really I came here a lot before I even moved here. It's called Freebird Live and is less than a full block from the ocean.  I haven't been here for about three years and a lot has changed, not just with the bar but in my life too. I'm sitting on a low step of the winding staircase next to (what's left of) the black and white tile floor my second husband and I danced on nearly every weekend. That was a long time ago.

A few minutes after the guys got the band equipment in and started sound check, the skies opened up. That isn't unusual for mid-April in Florida but there's a big music festival at the beach this weekend  People see us inside and are pounding on the door to get in. It's kind of funny -- to me and the band but probably not to all the folks trying to get out of the rain. I have mixed emotions about being here but mostly I'm happy for my son and his band mates. For them this isn't anything except another move forward.
