Flowers

Some days the best thing to do is plant a flower. Those of you who garden know what I'm talking about. It isn't just the beauty of the bloom itself; there's something about finding just the right place, preparing the soil, and making that part of the yard beautiful. The plant on the left hasn't quite found its perfect spot in the yard yet, but when I went out on my porch this afternoon, I noticed that what had been a little bud this morning had opened into a lovely pinwheel. I had to photograph it. You might be able to tell that it is an impatiens, which I think are pretty flowers, but it looks even more amazing in this middle phase.

I've planted all the other flowers I bought on Friday. Technically I suppose some of them are more foliage than flowers. Below are two more pictures of some nice plants I got in just before the rain yesterday. I still need to do a bit of work on the surrounding ground.
Even on a gloomy day, they make me smile.
