If curse words had never been coined, I'm not sure I'd be able to drive. My language is pretty tame most of the time, but when I drive I can't help cursing at the idiots on the road. Now that I'm driving across town and back twice a week, I'm really seeing the gamut of bad driving, and my mouth needs to be washed out with soap. Just today, I saw three people make left turns from right lanes (or vice versa); this is, I think, simply a matter of being inconsiderate. What one driver decides he/she has to do -- and has planned poorly for -- should not become a hazard to everyone else on the road. In the above-referenced situation, why not just turn right (or left, as the case may be) and then get back on track?
Downtown, where many of the streets are one-way, I see drivers making left turns on red. I'm not sure why they think this is okay, and my son (who has driving experience but obviously less than I have) sees this so often that he once asked me if the law was different in Florida. I assured him it was not, that some drivers are just assholes. Oops! It seems that even out of the car, just thinking about the poor driving I see on a daily basis gets me worked up.
I am a mild-mannered person; it takes a lot for me to lose my cool. However, if the only way you knew me was to have seen me on the road, you'd have a much different impression. It probably isn't good that I get so annoyed at other drivers. On the other hand, it's not so bad. Maybe it's a healthy way to let off some steam.
