My spring break is officially over, but I don't have to go back to work until Tuesday. Until today, I was woefully behind in what I had hoped/planned to accomplish. On my last night of classes, as I sat in the empty classroom putting in my office time before class officially started, I made a list. The first items were to grade two batches of essays and two batches of reader responses (shorter, less-formal papers). Other tasks included switching out my winter clothes for summer ones, taking unused items to Goodwill, and cleaning my garage. That last one was followed by a question mark, and of course didn't happen.
I'm sure my students feel that spring break passed all too quickly, and so do I. My short trip to Winter Park -- with a side trip to Cocoa Beach -- was fun, as was the gallery opening I went to on Friday. Maybe I could have done more, but I think I made pretty good use of the time. Still, I'm not looking forward to meeting with my "bad class" on Tuesday. I have copious notes and lesson plans so I won't be scrambling to kill three hours and tomorrow I will send a gentle reminder that there are consequences to the choices they make, such as failure for nonattendance.
Tomorrow my contractor is coming over to replace my back door and help me choose a new AC unit (finally!). I have about eight more papers to grade to be ready to return to class. Who knows; I may even get around to cleaning the garage.
