April in January

Is there a more pleasant surprise than an unexpectedly warm day in the middle of winter? Maybe. But a warm, moist day was exactly what I needed. Yesterday was chilly and I haven't been bothering to look at the weather report, so when I took my little dog out this morning and found the temperature pleasant, I checked my phone and discovered that the high would be in the mid-sixties. The sun never popped out but that was okay. To be able to walk outside without a coat and breathe deeply of the damp air was a cure better than any medicine I've been prescribed during my nearly two-week illness.

I had thought I had two weeks left until I travel home but it's more like a week. I have to be back in Jacksonville by the foutteenth. Maybe getting so sick was a good thing. I have very little time to spend sorting, choosing and packing. I found a local vintage shop where I might take a few items. Truly, though, less and less of it matters to me. I wouldn't have chosen to be ill for most of my visit -- doing more with my family would have been nice -- but if it keeps me from dragging a bunch of stuff home that'd probably sit around my garage for at least a few months, it's not entirely bad.
