Frankenscrooge

I haven't had much interest in Halloween since my kids moved out. This year in particular I have been too busy to do any decorating (not that I care that much) and tonight I was trying to work out my candy dilemmas: First, when I don't buy candy, I have trick-or-treaters and vice versa. Second, Mazie doesn't bark a whole lot but when she does, it's a yap that really gets on my nerves. So I had a choice of turning off the lights and not participating, or having her bark and try to get out every time someone comes to the door. At the last minute, I came up with a good solution. I took my candy bowl out to the curb and handed treats out from there. It took all of fifteen minutes to get rid of the candy, and I thought I was well-prepared. But that was enough. I had fun watching the little (and not so little) kids, especially since I'm not with my granddaughters, the younger of whom is a frog and the older of whom is Lizzie Borden. She, the older one, wanted to be Beetlejuice but it appears there are no costumes of that character for children.

Mazie didn't bark a bit, the kids got their candy, and I reminisced about my own kids' Halloweens past (and banished the temptation of candy), so it was a good night. And when I came inside, I gave Mazie a treat too.
