After six hours of landscaping yesterday, my yard looks great. My back, on the other hand, is pretty messed up. I was thinking even as I went along, "You don't have to do it all in one day!" However, my self-admonition didn't stop me. It was just such a beautiful day. I pulled weeds, raked leaves, mowed grass, and gathered debris (mostly tree branches that had fallen down in various storms). I did a little; it looked so good I had to keep going. When I woke up this morning I could barely get out of bed. I still had some work left to do, but there was no way I could do it today.
On the plus side, I know that every muscle in my body got a good workout. If I wait a day to continue (which is what I would do if I had worked out at the gym) and take it somewhat easier, this could be a good way to get back into exercising. I'm inspired by my upcoming trip to tone up and condition my body for walking around Santa Fe. I haven't exercised regularly for a long time, and Santa Fe is at 7000+ feet elevation, a big change from 0 feet elevation. That will take some getting used to, and I want to be in the best shape I can be when I get there.
So even though my body hurts today, I'm seeing this as a good thing. Not only will my yard be in amazing shape if I keep it up, but so will I. I just need to remember to go slow -- not my forte.
