"Too Shady for the Sunshine State"

As much as I would like to say I came up with the campaign slogan of the title, I have to admit I didn't. It's from Charlie Crist's team, and refers to Rick Scott, our current governor. I would love to see Crist win -- Scott has not been good for Florida, and especially not good for students and teachers -- but if my time in Florida has taught me anything, it's that the South really is a bastion of conservative Republicanism. Many of the politicians who call themselves Democrats are such in party affiliation only, and not in implementing the values and policies that are important to most Democrats I know. When I lived up north, I was probably a moderately liberal Democrat, and that's still how I see myself. Anyone I talk to who is not a Democrat considers me an extreme liberal. At this point, I don't expect most people (outside of my family and circle of friends) to agree with me on virtually any political issue. This doesn't shut me up or make me think less of those who don't agree, but it can be a source of frustration.

Back to the Crist ad, I am not usually a fan of mudslinging, but in this case I find it both warranted (in addition to not doing anything to advance education in our state, and even doing a lot to set it back, Rick Scott is a sneaky so-and-so) and hilarious. I hope that whoever came up with the slogan is in a lead position on the campaign team and can help Crist pull off a victory. It's time for our state to get back into the sunshine. (I know that's cheesy, but I ran out of steam there at the end.)
