Some Updates

I know I've left a few things hanging, so I thought I'd take a moment to update them. I'm happy to report that all my updates are good news. First, on the medical front, I finally got my mammogram results -- a full four weeks after my test. Everything was normal; all my worrying was, as worrying often is, for naught. I'm still not happy that a simple clerical error led to my having to wait so long to get my results, but my relief about there being no problems goes a long way to alleviate my annoyance.

Secondly, I am one page away from being finished with my mother's estate work! If you've never settled an estate on your own, you may not understand my enthusiasm here. It is quite the daunting task, and even when this part is finished, I will have to file last year's taxes (I got an extension) and next year's, and pay some bills from the estate account. Medicare is still sending account statements with notes at the bottom saying, "You have $[X] left in spending this year," or something like that. I called them last week to make sure they knew she was deceased. They said they had no record of that, they got their information from Social Security, and I should call SSA. So I did, even though I was sure I had already done that. SSA said that, in fact, I had already informed them, and they had pushed out the usual notification. I asked if they could send out something else to Medicare since apparently it hadn't gone through the first time. The answer was no, there's nothing they can do. Okay. Thanks. Moving on . . .

Everything is settled with my house. My ex-husband's name was finally removed from the paperwork and my appeal was approved. This means I will get a modification. The terms of my original loan will stand, except that the interest rate (and therefore my monthly payment) will be lowered. This makes everything more manageable, and I can't even express how elated I am to have that sociopath's name off of the last piece of paper that connects me to him (as far as I'm aware).

So that's my news. I might have left some other loose threads, but those are the ones that are uppermost on my mind now.
