After months of saving up and planning, my son and his girlfriend took off yesterday on a seven-day cruise to the Bahamas and Puerto Rico -- and directly into Tropical Storm Bertha, which today is a hurricane (in the Bahamas). I guess big cruise ships are pretty tough. The ship the kids are on is one of the huge Royal Caribbean ones, so hopefully it will stay steady even in the rough waves. I looked at the cruiseline's website to see what happens in the case of extremely inclement weather. All I could find out is that if it's really bad at the scheduled time of departure, the cruise is canceled. Doesn't it seem like more information than that should be available?
Despite my recent overworrying, I'm doing my best to keep in mind that if there's a problem, my son will call. If I don't hear from him, I will assume that he is safe and having a wonderful time in exotic locales and on port-of-call excursions. Fortunately, I'm working nearly fifty hours this week, so I'll be too busy to spend much time worrying.
