Since my daydreaming Saturday, I have been thinking more seriously about taking a cruise. The prices seemed great and even if I didn't like it, I could stand three-to-five days of anything. (At first I had considered a longer cruise, but then I thought a shorter one would be better for a "first float".) When I looked more closely, however, I discovered the same thing I encounter when I see great vacation deals on Expedia or Groupon: The prices are per person, based on double occupancy. A single person can, in fact, go on a cruise, but if she or he doesn't have someone to go with, she or he will have to book the whole cabin -- at double the rate.
I guess there isn't any other way the cruise lines could do it. From what I hear, the cabins are already pretty small, so having even smaller ones for independent travelers is probably out of the question. This is a shame. I was starting to get excited about going to sea and escaping the world, if only for a few days. On to Plan B.
