With all our crazy weather patterns, I'm surprised no one has written about them, especially about the rain. I've heard that Native Alaskans have hundreds of words for snow, each expressing a certain quality or characteristic about that particular kind of snow. We need that in Florida for rain. Today we have been in a cycle-pattern; the rain and non-rain circle around at regular intervals. Even this is different from other cyclical types of rain. Sometimes, especially when a hurricane is brewing off the coast. we have regular intervals of bright sun and pounding rain.
One of our other common patterns, and one with which the occasional traveler is likely familiar, is the sudden burst of torrential rain, very weird indeed when the sun is shining. I'm sure I've mentioned before that there have been times when it's raining in my back yard and not in the front. Similarly, sometimes it has rained at my house and not at the grocery store, only a mile or so away. The weather is always more changeable at the coast, and sometimes that manifests in odd ways.
Usually the rain makes me sleepy, but today I had a bad case of cabin fever. I put down weed and feed before the rain started and then got serious about the little bit of cleaning that needed to be done. I got out of the house for awhile with my son and his girlfriend -- who kindly bought my lunch when I wasn't looking -- and ran back out again a few minutes ago for ice cream. (I know I"m supposed to be eating light, but something about tonight just screamed ice cream.)
If I decide I need to sing about the rain, it looks like I'll have ample opportunity throughout the night. Maybe I'll search for songs about Florida Rain.
